REVIEW
The late Lucky Dube's latest project is a montage consisting of his biggest songs ever. This should serve as a great and wonderful tribute to the man who meant so much to so many people around the world, because of his wisdom and compassion, amongst his assorted traits. Taken from his albums over the years, from the very beginning, the songs contained here all have a profound meaning because of their messages of hope, of peace, of love, of unity, and all that is positive.
As a youngster, I grew up listening to songs such as Prisoner, Release Me, Slave and Remember Me. Although at the time I just reveled on the music, it was clear the music meant more. As I grew older, I began to understand the importance his music made in the political and social consciousness of the country and the world at large. He went on with his much needed gospel, garnering much respect and recognition wherever he travelled.
There is a type of reggae music that appeals to only the true raggae fans and Rastafarians, but Lucky's was enjoyed by every music lover. I guess the important thing is the message in the music, like Quincy Jones quized in one of his projects, what good is a song, if it doesn't have any message? Lucky Dube's messages were not only that of politics and social ills, but he showed his romantic nature as well. This is evidenced in many of his other songs, including I've Got You Babe, featured on this compilation.
You've got to add this album to your music collection, it will never be complete without it.
YEAHBO.DOT.NET gives it 4/5 stars.
