MARCH 2007's EARS
Mzantsi's best actress Oscar winner, Charlize Theron, has taken some chances as an actress, and now she's moved into the heady world of producing documentaries. She has produced and launched East Of Havana, a film focusing on the lives and friendship of three young female rappers compelled to address their generation's future from the confines of a Cuban ghetto. The documentary premiered recently at the Edinburgh Film Festival, where she was also spotted sporting a new brunette hairdo (see picture). Charlize should be commended for such great work. I can't wait to see this documentary, when I saw the snippets on eTV's Showbuzz Report, it looked quite interesting
On more Charlize news, in court papers filed a few weeks ago in state Supreme Court, Swiss watchmaker Raymond Weil said Theron signed an endorsement deal saying that from October 2005 through December 2006 she would only wear Weil's high-end watches. That deal allowed Weil to use Theron's photographs in its advertisements in exchange for "substantial funds," court papers said.
Meanwhile, Theron had an endorsement deal to promote a Dior perfume, Weil's lawsuit said. The 31-year-old actress "was actually photographed wearing a watch from the Christian Dior line" at a March 14, 2006, news conference at a film festival in Austin, Texas, court papers said. A photo of her wearing the watch is included as an exhibit. Well, I'm sure they will all resolve this in a more amicable way. More Charlize news, are that he and ex-boyfriend Stuart Townsend have been seen together and a reunion might be in the works. We'll see as time goes on. I think they suited each other.

We have some exclusive news that nobody else know about beside the camps at Oprah's company as well as Don Laka's. My sources reveal that, apparently the prominent jazz musician and the greatest talk show host ever, are collaborating on a project for Oprah's Girls Academy, the school that she opened in January here in South Africa. Apparently Don Laka is going to be producing music for the girls, which means that there will be a music group that will come out from the academy. I'm sure these girls will be forces to be reckoned with in the whole world, which would be fitting as one of the biggest and powerful women and one of the biggest producers in South Africa, will both be behind this project.
The details are not concrete at the moment, but we are taking a liking to the idea. It seems like it will work. Oprah will make sure that she markets and promotes these girls only the best way she knows how. I can just see them being featured on her talk show which is watched by tens of millions in America alone. But let's not get ahead of ourselves, we'll wait for the news to be confirmed. but if it does actually succeed, don't forget, we broke the news first. You know us like that, with the lowdown, that exclusive shit.

We hear that Mandoza is preparing to take Australia by storm when he embarks on a 3 city tour in Melbourne, Sydney and Perth from 28th March to 4th April 2007. The confirmed performance dates and venues include The Convention Centre, Perth on 30th March; Fitzroy Town Hall, Melbourne on the 31st of March; and The Metro Theatre, Sydney on 1st April 2007. Sunday World also reported on their current issue that this is going to be his second time performing for the Aussies, having done so back in 2005.
All we can say is that, good luck to the man. He seems to be doing his thing and we can't hate on him for that. Only if he could get a distribution and marketing deal in the country now, and many a few other countries in the European and even American continents. I would actually love to be among the peeps at any of those performances, just to see how the Aussies will react to his music. That was my dream with Lebo Mathosa (R.I.P), but I guess that will never happen now.

Many people remember him from Amistad . The Berlin -born Djimon Hounsou has appeared on many films, including playing a lighter role as Queen Latifah 's love interest on the comedy Beauty Shop and the currently running Blood Diamond . Blood Diamond is the film that saw him getting nominated for an Oscar for the second time in his career. There were talks that either him or Eddie Murphy would take the honours, but it was not to be. However, he was awarded at 38th Annual NAACP Image Awards , with the Best Supporting Actor In A Motion Picture accolade early this month, for his role on the South African -shot Blood Diamond, where he was supporting Leornado Di Caprio .
Other winners included Oscar winner Forest Whitaker as the Best Actor In A Motion Picture , for his role in The Last King Of Scotland , which won him the Oscar gong in the same category; Jennifer Hudson , who also took the same honours at the Oscars for her protrayal of Effie White on the musical Dreamgirls ; and Keke Palmer , as Best Actress In A Motion Picture , for her outstanding work on the motion picture Akeelah And The Bee (which we will be doing an exclusive screening of before its release in South Africa in June ). Back to Djimon Hounsou , it seems he is going to be even more popular. It has been confirmed that he is going to be modelling Calvin Klein 's new underwear line. That's a big achievement, especially being the first African associated with the campaign and the brand. The campaign will include TV commercials as well as print and online ads. Well done brother. It's good to see one of ours representing in Hollywood .
