I've got some bad news fellow South Africans. Here is a note received from Sheer Music, which was his local distribution company: It is with great sadness that we report the passing of a South African musical legend, the talented multi-instrumentalist: Bheki Mseleku.
Bheki had been battling with a serious diabetes problem for some time and was in and out of hospital for the past few months in the U.K., where he had been residing.
It was thought that he was fully recovered and plans for live events and appearances for him in South Africa towards the end of September this year were going forward apace…
The shock and tragedy of Bheki’s sudden and unexpected parting, though diabetes complications on the evening of Tuesday 9 September, cannot be overstated.
Sincere commiserations to the Mseleku family, the musical community at large and the world’s musical landscape as a whole. Bheki was a rare and unbelievable talent that will be sorely missed.
His music succeeds him, as do many family members, including seven children.
Bheki Mseleku will return to South Africa a final time to be laid to rest. Funeral and memorial arrangements will be elaborated upon as details become available. Please call Langa Mseleku (Bheki’s older brother): 083 588 5090 to get more details on that regard.
Rest In Peace baba. Your sterling music will solely be missed.
