REVIEW
I'm sure you are pondering why a 1994 album is being reviewed now. Due to ernomous demand for the album, Reliable Music decided to re-issue it this year and they made a great choice in doing so. The music still sounds as good and relevant as ever, 14 years later. This is the very same album that spun the hit 'Til You Do Me Right, one of the songs that cemented After 7's name further into the hall of music fame.
You may also be wondering what's up with After 7 these days. Well, not much, I'm afraid. You know that the trio broke up, just like most R&B groups that used to rule the music industry back in the 80's and 90's. One of Babyface's brothers in the group, Kevon Edmonds released a solid solo effort entitled 24/7, which had some really great gems, including a duet with brother Babyface called A Girl Like You; but has also since disappeared, just like the other brother, Melvin Edmonds and their partner in crime Keith Mitchell, cousin to Babyface's long-time partner L.A. Reid.
I was not familar with some of the songs on Reflections, but after listening to the album I fell in love with the whole project. The 12-track album features some stellar writing and production from the wordsmith Babyface. Sharing writing and production credits is another powerhouse and the ever-so-talented Jon B. Moreover, they also alternate on the keyboards on some of the songs; and Babyface even features his vocals on the smooth ballad Honey (Oh How I Need You). My other standout tracks are Damn Thing Called Love, How Did He Love You, How Do You Tell The One, and How Could You Leave, which are all sterling slow jams cooked to perfection.
How great 90's R&B was. I really miss that musical era.
YEAHBO.DOT.NET gives it 4/5 stars.
