John Legend to serenade the ladies this Woman’s Day
John Legend, born John Stephens, returns to South Africa once more this August to wow the ladies as they celebrate Woman’s Day. With four studio albums under his belt, including the collaboration with The Roots entitled Wake Up, he’s set to give us his best act yet.
When it was first announced last year that he may be returning, I made a joke about us going ahead and building a ‘mkhukhu’ for him since he’s been here numerous times. In fact, I have seen him perform live three times already.
The first time was also his first in the country, where he performed alongside Leela James at an MTV concert. To make this even more special, Lebo Mathosa was on the same bill, and this may have been the last time I saw the powerhouse performer do her thing live on stage. And as always, she gave a world-class performance. By the way, today is Lebo‘s birthday. She would have been 35. R.I.P. Lioness! We miss your brilliance on stage.
The second and third time I saw John Legend perform were in Sun City and The Dome, respectively. Well, it’s actually more times that I’ve experienced this legend’s (pun intended) live shows, if you note the countless times I’ve watched his Live At House Of Blues DVD. I kid, I kid.
Anyway, please see more information about his impending concert in Johannesburg, below.
It is official, international headlining sensation John Legend will be back in SA for an exclusive and intimate show to celebrate Woman’s Day this August. Taking place at the Sandton Convention City on August 10th, he will be supported by SA songstress / Idols judge Unathi Msengana and multiple SAMA winning outfit MiCasa.
Cleverly leaked on social networks mid last week, Trademark Entertainment today announced their partnership with SABC3 to bring the iconic musician to SA in celebration of women all over the country. The night is especially dedicated to SA ladies but promises to entertain and wow all John Legend fans alike.
With the inclusion of two of SA’s hottest acts at the moment, the choice was obvious to include the talented, sexy and sassy Unathi and the SA favourites MiCasa to the line-up. Event ambassador Minnie Dlamini who will MC the show tweeted that the night will offer a more intimate show than all his previous SA concerts. “This intimate seated show only offered a limited number of fans an experience to remember”, stated MetroFM’s Tbo Touch on his radio show last week.
With only 4000 tickets on sale nationwide, sales opened this week at Computicket. General access tickets are available for R900 while VIP costs R1400. For a more exclusive experience, VVIP tickets / hospitalities packages are also available at R1750 via special bookings on 011 844 1103.

I know there was some hoopla this past weekend when it was revealed that Unathi and MiCasa would be supporting John Legend on his show. Nothende, whom I completely agree with, would have been more apt and perfect as the supporting act. But hey, the organisers made their decision.
As you may have noticed above that there is a limited number of tickets made available to the public, therefore you better hurry and secure yours now if you don’t wanna miss out. I promise you, John Legend gives it his all.
