Artist: Theo Kgosinkwe
Title: Grateful
Record Label: Gallo Records
One half of group Mafikizolo, Theo Kgosinkwe, returns with Grateful; a follow up to his debut solo album I Am. It has a nice progression, the title. Doesn’t it?
Theo has put together a collection of diverse sounds ranging from African Pop, house, jazz and even gospel. These reverberations are foiled by various musicians he’s worked with. Amongst these are collaborators like Guffy Pilane, Robbie Malinga and Mojalefa Thebe on the production ropes; and Kurt Darren as well as Zonke on vocals on the songs Lief Vir Jou and Thinking About You, respectively. Iconic trumpeter Hugh Masekela also imparts his horns and vocal skills on Ongimthandayo.
Although Grateful is a finicky blend of different sounds, the stronger jams possess a house-music feel to them. Songs like All I Wanna Do, Good Life and the remix to Step Into My World suit his voice very well. And then ballads like Ngiyakukhumbula and Isithembiso showcase his marvelous songwriting skills.
Theo will definitely be keeping the dance floors, whether in clubs or other gatherings, blazing this festive season.
