My good friend model, actor and entrepreneur Stevel Marc had a vision for his website and did everything in his power to bring that vision to life. A few months ago he showed me the almost finished product and was very impressed with what I saw. I told him at the time that his pushing of the envelop makes him the only entertainer/celebrity I know, especially in Mzansi, that will have such innovative and unique presence online.
But when he told me he wanted to launch the website in 3D, I was bowled over. It seemed a fitting idea for him to push it a step further by combining the launch of stevelmarc.com with a screening of the new Step Up film, which is also in 3D. When I watched the film this past Monday, I could see how everything comes together with the rest of his plans for the launch evening; to form a solid entertainment experience. Now, I have mentioned that I watched Step Up 3D. Although the storyline is weak and predictable; and the acting not world class, the entertainment certainly makes up for it. There were many moments that created a huge impression on me. Like the scene that was specifically shot on 3D during the 2nd round of the World Jam Championships where the dance floor is immersed in water and the dancers are splashing through the water as they do their thing. Or that sterling live orchestra rendition of Jazmine Sullivan‘s Bust Your Windows with the dancers breaking into a Latin American routine at a birthday party. Or even towards the end of the credits when this guy who wasn’t part of the cast sits on a chair and starts this crazy sequence where he is only using his arms and hands to dance to Common and Lilly Allen‘s Drivin’ Me Wild.
