Browsing through the internet I came across a very striking poster of a movie called Night Catches Us. Upon closer inspection, I noticed that Kerry Washington and Anthony Mackie are featured on the poster therefore leading the lineup. I remembered the first and last time I saw them playing alongside each other in the Spike Lee picture She Hate Me, and how captivated I was. I actually think that’s when I became a staunch fan of both.

Night Catches Us is written and directed by Tanya Tamilton and also stars Jamie Hector, Wendell Pierce and Amari Cheatom. The synopsis of Night Catches Us reads as follows:
In 1976, after years of mysterious absence, Marcus (Anthony Mackie, “The Hurt Locker”) returns to the Philadelphia neighborhood where he came of age in the midst of the Black Power movement. While his arrival raises suspicion among his family and former neighbors, he finds acceptance from his old friend Patricia (Kerry Washington, “Ray,” “Lift”) and her daughter. However, Marcus quickly finds himself at odds with the organization he once embraced, whose members suspect he orchestrated the slaying of their former comrade-in-arms. In a startling sequence of events, Marcus must protect a secret that could shatter everyone’s beliefs as he rediscovers his forbidden passion for Patricia.

Beside that two of my favourite actors are paired together again, Night Catches Us looks really interesting. And the fact that the film is scored by The Roots makes me like it even more, before seeing it or listening to the music. Now, the film only opens in theatres in America in December, so we will probably only get to see it in the second quarter on 2011. If at all. I can’t wait.
