My first introduction to Thomas Gumede was on the drama series shot in my hometown, which also shares the name of one of the Durban beaches, The Bay Of Plenty. He’s subsequently starred in many other television productions, including the award-winning A Place Called Home. This drama also garnered him a Best Actor in a Drama prize at the SAFTA‘s last year.

He cemented his name as an all round entertainer when we saw him host David Kau‘s brainchild, So You Think You’re Funny, a reality series that unveiled a bevy of talent in the stand-up comedy industry. It was at this point that most of us found out that he’s actually a comedian himself, having carved a niche following with his humourous take on different subjects affecting Mzansi and the rest of the world.

His live DVD, simply and aptly titled Thomas Gumede Live (at the Windybrow Theatre) has just been released and available for purchase at Soul Candi Home Entertainment.
