This year’s MTN South African Music Awards were undoubtedly one of the best in a long time. Besides the amazing production, the brilliant performances, and the general energetic and fun ambiance; the fashion on the yellow carpet left many tongues wagging, whether it was positive or otherwise.
Admittedly, I was one of the people who had a lot to say about what people were wearing. The evidence is in the twitpics and commentary I posted that created a huge buzz on Twitter. Just as a recap below, I shall give you my top 5 of the best dressed, the worst dressed and the ones I just couldn’t decide whether they hit it or missed it. Apologies, I don’t know what my photographers fear was about shooting from head to toes. Enjoy!

I liked what Tsedi was wearing. Simple, perfect fit and a refreshing shade of green. Accessories are a nice complement.
Actress and TV presenter Entle wore this flowing, multi-coloured dress with such grace. The dash of shocking pinks adds a nice playfulness.
Lira sizzled in this yellow evening gown by designer Gert-Johan Coetzee. The grey mix works well, actually. I was just not happy with how the dress blended with the yellow carpet.
This was not Bonang‘s yellow carpet look (she had on a black and white mermaid-inspired dress). This red, stunning, and sassy number she wore when presenting and at after-party sat well on her slim frame. Another Gert-Johan Coetzee piece.
Thembi‘s ensemble was the best one for me. She looked entrancing in this sleeveless Gert-Johan Coetzee creation with blue polka dots and black beads.
WOW! This is a bit creepy, my top 3 dresses were done by the same designer. Is it possible that if I had seen more that he designed, they would have completed my top 5? Gert-Johan Coetzee did a sterling job.

There is one thing in common with the above guys…they all look dashing, whether in combination of different pieces or 2 piece suits and tuxes. It seems they all chose the colour black; I guess you can never go wrong with the primary colour. With the guys that injected some colour in their outfits, it was either too much, or they went for those annoying shiny fabrics. Sizwe Dhlomo takes first prize here because although he did the black and white thing, he played with it a bit. Thabiso is second and Stoan a close third. Noteworthy mention goes to Teargas, they all looked sharp too, especially Ntukza in a grey suit. All these guys GQ‘ed it up. I hope all the guys are taking notes. This is how men should look at award functions.

Whoever that guest is, I could be wrong, but why try to show your bosom when it is hiding away from you? An that tattoo, cover that ish up!
Madhuvha sisi, I take it you wanted to show us that you can also be ZEXY. But eh…looking like I Love New York from the Flavor Flav show is not going to accomplish that.
Miss South Africa, Nicole Flint, seems to have thought this was a Valentines Ball. 2 months 2 late lady!
Thandiswa‘s dress is actually not that bad, it’s just that I never thought she would take inspiration from Little Miss Sunshine. Those horns actually gave me nightmares when I went to sleep later that day.
Like I said on my tweet when I saw Camagwini, straight outta Star Wars! What’s going on kahle kahle la? Some are calling her Gagagwini now.

I know these guys are brothers, but why do Jaziel Brothers have to look like twins all the time. And that shine in your suits, NO!
Bheki Cele doesn’t look too bad, I mean there is some improvement from those hideous cowboy outfits he used to rock.
For DJ Cleo, I expected more from him. It’s not even the fact that it’s a shirt I saw at Marc & Micheal sale a few months ago. Take notes from newcomers like Culoe, Cleo!
Bab’ Nzimande, I have no words for you. You look like a school teacher from the ’80′s. And how does the pink tie fit in on this ensemble?
These guys take the cake for sheer disappointment. The fact that Big Nuz won 2 major awards in their 3 doesn’t give them a pass. Did they think this was some skateboard show? Tira, speak to your cousins!

What do you think of the above verdicts? Do you agree? Not? Let me know.

You have just made my morning.
OMG just when I thought they weren’t any MEN (not boys who wear their”trousers” low) in SA.
“but why try to show your bosom when it is hiding away from you?” kwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Bhodloza, lol he does look like a teacher, especially with his pants creeping towards his member SMH. In the worst dressed catergory i think u forgot Mbongeni’s wives who were dressed like they were going to a matric dance in 1991.
And as for Big NUZ dressed as if they are going to the movies-SMH *Mama ur son is a kwaito star*
hahahaha, the “guest” happens to be Catherin from 5fm…. i totally love her…. have to agree she need to dress her age.
WTF was Camagwini wearing. she looked like a giraffe dressed in an astronaut suit. What was Madhuvha’s getup? She looked like Pamela Anderson with a weight problem. Nicole: how did she get the crown? Thandiswa: i think her fashion error speaks for itself
