My hometown, Durban, has unearthed another amazing talent in singer Ternielle Nelson who has just released her debut album called…..wait for it….Unearthed.
With veteran Selaelo Selota on the production ropes, Unearthed is a melting pot of different African sounds. The writing credits are shared amongst both Ternielle and Selaelo, as well as Tendani Makhuba, Mxolisi Majozi, Gugu Cebekhulu, Wanda Zonke, and Robin Kohl. Ternielle flows so smoothly over the carefully and diversely crafted music with her angelic and soothing voice. She is also not shy to belt the songs out in assorted languages including Zulu and Venda, amongst a few.
The tracks that stood out for me upon first listen are Da N Da De’, Zwi Do Luga and Ngilinde. I don’t know if the fact that parts of these songs are sung in some of our native languages, but there was an instant liking and appeal to them.
Unearthed is a beautiful piece of organic, authentic music that is sure to give Ternielle Nelson a glowing introduction to the music industry, not just a singer, but a guitar player too. It is available now at your nearest music shop.

if i was a jazz fan, i would buy it
