PREVIEW
The title alone is sure to make you cogitate on the mystery that this film presents. As the story is unpacked, bit by bit, you learn more that this is no mystery, but a simple yet bizarre tale of part of US military history.
In a quest to break his next big story, investigative reporter Bob Wilton (Ewan McGregor) meets Lynn Cassady (Academy Award winner George Clooney), an indistinct figure claiming to be part of a U.S. military unit doing experiments to strengthen their force. Lynn has it in his head that the New Earth Army has devised new ways to fight wars. He relays with passion and conviction the different ways they have used to defeat their enemies. Now, his undertaking is to locate the program’s founder, Bill Django (Oscar winner Jeff Bridges) who has vanished into thin air.
All the elements of The Men Who Stare At Goats seem to gel together like a well-oiled machine. From the irresistible narrative, thanks to screenwriter Peter Straughan; to the unimpeachable acting chops; to the witty and invigorating humour; it’s an immense pleasure to watch. It always is with a film that is imaginative and inimitable in its presentation, without trying to be smart and palpable at the same time.
As much as Clooney unambiguously shines here, his supporting actors are equally impressive in their respective assorted roles. This speaks volumes to the casting choices by the casting director to envisage such faces and personalities for each of the characters; and flagrantly succeed realizing that vision.
Featuring plenty of Academy Award-winning talent, The Men Who Stare At Goats gets 3 out of 5 YEAHBO wireless radios for a perfectly flowing story, impeccable timing, as well as for entertainment and educational value.
