Precious and The Hurt Locker make history

Precious and The Hurt Locker make history
Although Avatar was anticipated to dominate the Oscars last night, it was Cameroon’s ex-wife, Katherine Bigelow, who walked smiling form ear to ear as her directing stint on The Hurt Locker made history as the first time ever such a prize went to a female director. That wasn’t the only feat for the film and its crew. It also took the coveted Best Picture gong, as well as 4 other Oscars, including Best Writing for Mark Boal. Jeanie D and...

MTV Africa turns 5!

MTV Africa turns 5!
The MTV Networks operations in Africa turns 5 this year. To celebrate this milestone for the channel MTVBase they threw a mother of all parties, which I’ve just returned from. It was an invite-only affair that took place at Urban Tree in Kramerville. As we entered the venue, we were greeted with warm welcomes and advised of the self photo-booth to capture the memories of this moment. The venue was decked out with white decor complementing...

Zuluboy’s groundbreaking SAMA nod!

Zuluboy’s groundbreaking SAMA nod!

This year the organisers decided to cancel the press conference that usually takes place a few hours before the actual launch and nomination announcement in an attempt to streamline the process. Although it may have worked for the purposes intended, the chaos that was created by the lack...

The three are: US keyboardist Jeff Lorber; a Dutch hip-hop duo called La Melodia and Cape Town-based guitarist Allou April. Â This brings to 42, the groups that will perform at the festival that takes place on Saturday 04 and Sunday 05 April at the Cape Town International Convention Centre...

Precious premiere a sounding success!

Precious premiere a sounding success!
Guests at pre-partyThe premiere of Lee Daniel‘s 6-time Academy Award nominated film PRECIOUS, hosted by YEAHBO.DOT.NET and sponsored by Sarita took place on Sunday, 28 February 2010, at Nu Metro Montecasino. Beginning with a pre-cocktail party where eats and drinks were served to the stomachs content, the guests had no idea what an emotional roller-coaster ride was awaiting them at the theatre. As they mingled, they chatted unknowingly or speculatively...
