After a big hype leading to this day, Bonang finally launched her website and her clothing line at a packed MiBar in Rosebank tonight.

Dressed in a magenta strapless Elizabethan-inspired ball-gown held tightly at the waist by a simply designed floral belt, and matching peep-toe pumps, she stood out from the droves of celebrities and some of her friends that came to support her in her new venture. To complement her look was decor that included hints of other shades of pink and assorted cup-cakes that were sporadically placed throughout the venue. In the house were names like Mpho Maboi, Sizwe Dhlomo, Thabo Mdluli and wife, designers Craig Jacobs and Gert-Johan Coetzee, and many more.

On the decks to provide entertainment were DJ’s Euphonik, Black Coffee, Lulo Cafe and Siz. I left a bit early so I didn’t get to see what Black Coffee and Euphonik roiled up. I’ve heard these guys do their magic before, so I’m sure they brought it on later on. It was my first time seeing or hearing Siz deejay and I must say I was impressed with his hip-hop-laced mix.

Bonang’s website, www.bonangmatheba.com, is everything she said it was when she introduced it in an emotional state tonight. Chic, young, fresh, simple and sexy, it certainly represents her personality well as a young woman making it in the media world. I didn’t get to see the bags (which she co-designed with London-based-Botswana-born designer Koketso Chiepe) she spoke about from her Baby Star range, but by looking at how stylish she has always been, it should be equally catchy and appealing.
